Austin Chappell has been a percussion educator since 2008. The first two years were as the percussion director at McKinney High School, and then spent four years teaching privately around the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. He also has teaching experience in DCI, having taught the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps bass line in 2009 and 2010.


Austin Chappell, a percussion educator, arranger, and performer, is the percussion director at Red Oak High School. With a degree in music education from the University of North Texas, Mr. Chappell has studied under Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, Paul Rennick, Ed Smith, Mike Drake, and Poovalur Sriji. During his time there, he performed in various ensembles, including the Green Brigade marching band, symphonic band, classical percussion ensemble, the steel band, and the South Indian percussion ensemble. From 2004-2006, he was a member of the Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps. Since graduating from UNT in 2008, his work experience includes being a high school percussion director, an instructional staff member of the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, and a performing/recording musician. Mr. Chappell resides in Oak Cliff with his wife Lauren and their daughter, Violet.
