SPANISH I (Pre-AP)/II RED OAK HIGH SCHOOL
Teacher: Debra Wilson Email: email@example.com
Course description: The goal of this Spanish class is to learn how to communicate in Spanish. The best way to learn a language is by speaking the language. In our class, we will speak, read and write in Spanish. We will also use T.P.R.S. (Total Physical Response Storytelling). Not to worry, there will be time for the use of English for specific lessons, instructions, grammar, culture and geography of the target languages. This time will also be used to clear confusion, to discuss homework and project assignments, etc.
Textbooks: The textbook is ¡Así se dice! A class set will be available in the classroom for use at school. Students will use the textbook and online resources throughout the school year.

Grading: Major Grades-60% Daily Grades/Quizzes-25% Homework -15%
Late work: Late homework may receive a deduction of 15 points per day for being late up to a maximum of 3 days or 45 points. If the work is still not submitted after teacher intervention and/or 3 days, the assignment is recorded as a zero. (Exception for Major Assignments 1st day late = maximum penalty of 25 points; 2nd day late =maximum penalty of 50 points; 3rd day late = grade of 0.)
Tests/Quizzes: Tests or quizzes may be administered in written and/or spoken formats. Test or major assignment grades constitute 60% of a student’s overall grade. Students who score below 70 on any major assignment or test will have an opportunity to retake the test or a suitable alternative test covering the same material. Reteaching of content may be offered in class or through tutorials before the retest. The retest grade will be no higher than 70. No retests are allowed on quizzes/daily grades.
Bonus Coupons: Bonus coupons are earned for bell ringers, review games, etc. Coupons may be used on test grades only. Bonus coupons must be signed and dated by the teacher in order to be valid. Coupons must be added prior to the grading of the test. There is a 10-point bonus limit per test grade.
Bell ringers: Students should begin the activity as soon as the bell rings and finish it by the time attendance has been posted. Bell ringers should be written daily in a binder or spiral. Bell ringer checks will be given periodically during the six weeks. If absent, be sure to get the bellringer from a classmate.
Make-up Work: Making up missed work is the responsibility of the student. Students will be expected and permitted to make up assignments and tests after absences. When a student has been absent for one or more days and has not had sufficient time to make up the work (ordinarily one day for each day of absence), more time may be allowed under extenuating circumstances. When the make-up work is not turned in by the designated date, please refer to the late work policy.
Hall Passes: Once the bell rings, students should remain in class. Students should take care of all personal business BEFORE or AFTER class.
